    The 4th application round for improving the state of watercourses, funded by the Cohesion Fund, ended in the Environmental Investment Centre (KIK), receiving 16 applications for funding with a total request of funding in the amount of 3.2 million Euros.

    Environmental Investment Centre (Keskkonnainvesteeringute Keskus, KIK) received 20 applications for investment aid for the water industry by the 25th of January. In total, an additional 79.3 million Euros are requested to be invested into Estonian water industry, in which aid from the Cohesion Fund would comprise 65.3 million.

    In 2012, nearly 200 million Euros of aid were paid through KIK to projects funded by structural aids and CO2 quota sales, which is more than the total over three preceding years.

    The Management Board of the Environmental Investments Centre (EIC) approved two wind energy development projects, which entail the construction of wind farms in the counties of Ida-Virumaa and Lääne-Virumaa. The construction of the wind farms is being supported by the revenue from the emission quota sales transaction concluded between Estonia and Spain, and the investment support for these two projects amounts to nearly 12.4 million Euros.

    The Environmental Investments Centre finished the assessment of applications aimed at the improvement of the condition of flowing water bodies and made the decision to finance four projects to the total amount of 2.55 million Euros. The projects financed from the European Union Cohesion Fund include the construction of fish ladders in Põltsamaa City, at the Kunda Cement Factory, by the Vastse-Roosa barrage and the Linnamäe Power Plant. The next application round will be announced in May.

    The Environmental Investments Centre (EIC) finished the assessment of water management infrastructure applications and decided to finance 14 projects to the total amount of 43 million Euros. These financing decisions, together with the 59 applications already approved in two earlier rounds, cover more than 95% of the European Union Cohesion Fund support allocated for the measure.

    The Environmental Investment Centre has approved the subsidy for the expansion of the landfill area of the Väätsa waste disposal site. The amount of the investment is 29 896 745 kroons of which 24 878 576 kroons will come as a subsidy from the European Union Cohesion Fund and the rest – as self-financing of the Väätsa waste disposal site.

    The Environmental Investments Centre gave the green light to seven waste reuse projects, which in total will receive 91,756,676 EEK of support from the European Cohesion Fund. Of the seven projects, three are focussed directly on using plastic waste as raw material in production or on improving the sorting of plastic waste.

    With financing decisions signed at the Environmental Investment Centre 14 projects, all dealing with the infrastructure of the environmental education, will receive altogether 350 million Estonian kroons from the European Regional Development Fund. With it, to bring but one example, the Environmental Board and the State Forest Management Centre will update their network of education centres, Nature Museum and Pärnu Nature Centre will get the long awaited modernization.

    26 financing decisions for different nature conservation projects were signed in the Environmental Investment centre. Altogether the projects receive 49 million Estonian kroons aid money from the European Regional Development Fund which is more than twice more than previously planned. Financially biggest projects are the reconstruction of the North-east pond in Kadriorg Park and restoring biological diversity at the Väikese Väina conservation area.
