EIC received funding to promote sustainable blue economy
EIC's international project MARTE "Marine technology excellence hub for sustainable blue economy in Baltics" has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme! The project, involving partners from Estonia and Latvia, will run from 2025 to 2028. The budget of MARTE project is 5 million euros.
The goal of the MARTE project is to promote the development of a sustainable and environmentally friendly blue economy in the Baltic Sea region and facilitate the adoption of new technologies across the entire maritime value chain. The project will create a cross-border innovation strategy and a supporting network, as well as develop opportunities for testing new technologies in the Baltic Sea. The main focus will be on application areas of marine technologies such as offshore energy, smart marine vessels, smart ports, sustainable use of marine resources, and monitoring and improving the marine environment.
The project involves Estonian and Latvian partners from various sectors: research institutions (TalTech, University of Tartu, Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology), public sector institutions (Environmental Investment Centre, Kurzeme Planning Region, Saaremaa Development Centre, Investment and Development Agency of Latvia), industry (Association of Estonian Marine Industries, Port of Ventspils) and coastal communities (WWF, Baltijas Krasti, Saarte Koostöökogu). The project's advisory board includes representatives from HELCOM, Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia, Ministry of Climate of Estonia and the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture of Estonia.
