The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11-22, 2024.
This year's theme is "In Solidarity for a Green World". Similar to previous years, the conference will focus on accelerating global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase efforts to adapt to climate change. A key topic will be agreeing on and strengthening the goals of international climate finance. In addition to the climate negotiations, there will be a Green Zone which is open to all visitors and a closed Blue Zone with pavilions for countries and organizations. Additionally there will be side events at the venue.
Environmental Investment Centre (EIC) is coordinating the assembly of the Estonian delegation for COP29 and on-site activities. We are seeking opportunities for the delegation to be represented in the programs of other pavilions, special events, and meetings.
Delegation members will have access to the Blue Zone, where discussions and events outside of the negotiations take place, supporting cooperation between the public, private, and third sectors in environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and mitigation. The pavilion area is a good meeting place to engage delegates from different countries (officials, experts, politicians) and representatives of interest groups in discussions, present solutions, share lessons learned, meet potential partners, and listen to topical discussions by top experts in the field.
Estonia does not plan to have its own pavilion at COP29, and no financial contributions are expected from organizations participating in the event. However, each participant must cover their direct travel costs (flight, hotel, etc.).
The Estonian Ministry of Climate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, together with their subordinate institutions, are providing support to the delegation in cooperation with EIC.
If you wish to participate in the COP29 delegation, please send a brief description of your organization, focus countries/organizations at COP, and planned participants (up to 0.5 pages) to [email protected].
Organizations that meet the following criteria are welcome to apply:
- Represent innovative technology, products, services, green solutions, networks, etc. developed in Estonia that support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, climate change mitigation, and/or adaptation to climate change.
- Have an international dimension or potential.
- Plan to meet potential partners at COP (e.g., to conclude cooperation agreements) or plan to participate as a speaker in the programs of other pavilions.
