Nearly 500 million euros invested in Estonia’s environment in the past EU period
During the 2014–2020 European Union budget period, the Environmental Investment Centre (EIC) allocated EUR 130 million from the Structural Funds to projects in the fields of energy and mobility, 278 million to projects in the fields of water management and biodiversity, and EUR 76 million to projects in the circular economy.
Up to 8 kg of mercury discovered in a shipwreck located in Estonian waters
There are nearly 700 shipwrecks in Estonian waters, 55 of which have been identified as hazardous to the environment – i.e., they are a pollution risk, covered with ghost nets, or have various explosives on board. The Environmental Investment Centre and the Police and Border Guard Board worked together to carry out underwater inspections of the three most dangerous wrecks.
ELWIND received funding to carry out environmental impact assessment studies
ELWIND, a joint offshore wind farm project between Estonia and Latvia, received a positive response from the European Union to a request for funding to conduct environmental impact assessment studies.
