EIC supports nature protection activities under the nature protection program of the Environmental Programme and the ERDF measure "Preservation of natural diversity", whereas the latter is partly held in the form of open application rounds and partly channelled through the investment plan. The investment plan grants are allocated directly to the Environmental Board and the State Forest Management Centre.

The objective of the nature protection program is to protect nature in order to preserve its diversity, to ensure the good condition of natural habitats and the natural animal, plant and fungi species and to preserve natural environments of cultural-historical and aesthetic value. The activities supported fall into the following areas: the implementation of measures ensuring the planning of the long-term and sustainable development of nature protection; maintenance of natural habitats and protected zones, conservation zones, parks and individual objects under national protection and the organisation of the protection thereof; and the development of the national nature protection infrastructure.

The ERDF grants are used for restoring endangered habitats, populations of endangered species and the overall landscape; limiting the numbers of alien species and problematic species; restoring and reconstructing parks and restoring individual objects of natural value. The creation of the necessary infrastructure and the procurement of tools needed for maintenance are also supported.
