Although it may seem that the energy industry is an unusual area to support in the environmental context – in actuality this is not the case. Our environmental management programme (part of the Environmental Programme) supports various surveys and all kinds of works to reduce the negative impact of the energy industry and improve the condition of our ambient air – be it through the restoration of natural landscapes (e.g. old quarries) or the use of renewable energy.
In 2010 a new financing measure was added to EIC's portfolio - the Green Investment Scheme or the money recieved through the sale of the excess CO2 quota. Areas of financing will be decided by the buyers. The first grants channeled through EIC were for the renovation of the district heating networks, renovation of combined generation plants and more environmentally-sustainable boiler houses, now the measure to support investments in the wind energy has joined our portfolio.
The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) also provided grants for renewable energy or, more specifically, for the renovation of combined generation plants, more environmentally-sustainable boiler houses and heating mainlines, but no more financing is planned from this measure.
